Languedoc-Roussillon, between beaches and gastronomy
Geography
The former Languedoc-Roussillon region, now Occitanie, comprises 5 departments: Pyrénées-Orientales, Gard, Hérault, Aude and Lozère. Four of these departments border the Mediterranean Sea, stretching from Provence to the Spanish border.
Climate
Languedoc-Roussillon is renowned as a great place to live, with a pleasant Mediterranean climate, hot in summer and mild in winter.
Gastronomy
The region is also known for its culinary specialties, which can be discovered at the many local markets in season. Languedoc wines (Banyuls, Rivesaltes, etc.) are also very famous, as are oysters from Bouzigues, just a stone’s throw from Mèze and the Etang de Thau, the famous tielles and Catalan cream. All in all, a succulent menu made up entirely of local dishes.
At local markets and festivals, let yourself be tempted by typical regional specialties such as tielles and zézettes from Sète, oysters from Bouzigues, petits pâtés from Pézenas, brasucades, gardianne de taureau, olives and olive oil. For an aperitif, “toast to Finca L’Air Marin” with a small glass of Muscat from Frontignan, or Noilly Prat from Marseillan , and olives of course.
The vines of our hinterland have soaked up the sun to produce the finest crus, and you won’t want to leave without tasting them! Take your curiosity to the cellars of St Chinian, Minervois, Corbières, Faugères, Pic St-Loup and Picpoul de Pinet…
Its climate, coastline, magnificent scenery and renowned seaside resorts (Vias, Valras-Plage, Collioure, Port-Barcarès, Narbonne…) make Languedoc-Roussillon a popular destination for holidaymakers in all seasons.
